Notes:
In today’s presentation I will tell you a bit about IPv6, the reason you might considers using v6, a number of simple transition scenarios, and finally the usage of NAT-PT as part of your transition strategy.
I’ll start with a bit of history of IPv4 to let us understand how we got to the place we are now, I’ll talk about global address depletion and the mechanism that are used to slow it down like NAT and CIDR.
I’ll then tell you about the trends we are seeing the Internet today and how networks will have to evolve to meet new user demands.
From there we’ll look at IPv6 as a viable solution to many of today’s problems, and where the early adaptation of IPv6 may be prudent. I’ll discuss various transition strategies, with a special emphasis on NAT-PT.
Finally we will have a round of questions and answers to wrap the presentation.
